Dear Lucyj Proctor,

thank you for your report How Norway is offering drug-free treatment to people with psychosis asking: Medication-free treatment could be just another therapeutic fad - or it could have the power to change psychiatry for good.

I guess you know the A MIA Report: The Door to a Revolution in Psychiatry Cracks Open.  Norway's Health Ministry Orders Medication-Free Treatment and conference in English "What is the knowledge base for treatment with or without the use of psychotropic drugs?"  (only the headline is in Norwegian Hva er kunnskapsgrunnlaget for behandling med eller uten bruk av psykofarmaka?)

I would like to draw your attention to United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to health, Dainius Pūras supporting change: World needs “revolution” in mental health care – UN rights expert

GENEVA (6 June 2017) – The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the right to health, Dainius Pūras, has called for a sea change in mental health care around the world, urging States and psychiatrists to act with courage to reform a crisis-hit system built on outdated attitudes.

“We need little short of a revolution in mental health care to end decades of neglect, abuse and violence,” Mr. Pūras said after presenting his latest report to the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

“Mental health is grossly neglected within health systems around the world.  Where mental health systems exist, they are segregated from other healthcare and based on outdated practices that violate human rights.

“I am calling on States to move away from traditional practices and thinking, and enable a long overdue shift to a rights-based approach. The status quo is simply unacceptable.”

In Germany a real life experiment took place: Germany without Coercive Treatment in Psychiatry—A 15 Month Real World Experience

Some hospitals to train staff and change treatment e. g. Hospital in Heidenheim described here: Responding to Crises - Alternatives to Hospital: Martin Zinkler, Kliniken Landkreis Heidenheim gGmbH, Trieste 23rd Sept 2019: http://www.triestementalhealth.org/wp-content/uploads/2019/10/Zinkler.pdf

There is no forced drugging and every patient can choose medication free treatment. this is seen as a step to end forced treatment: Psychiatric chief physician demands: End Coercion in Mental Health Services

I have collected such information about antipsychotics and medication free treatment here: http://wkeim.bplaced.net/files/Antipsychotics_Medication-free.pdf showing that scientific studies show low effect of antipsychotics and support medication free treatment.

I hope I could support your reporting and send a copy to Dr. Martin Zinkler.

Regards,
